Video: Are these Metro cops taking bribes from drug dealers?

Buisiness owners insist they are.

Business owners on Roodepoort CBD’s main artery, Van Wyk Street, says the epidemic drug dealing on this street is threatening the future of their businesses.

It goes further though. They also allege both Metro Police officers and the Police are taking bribes from dealers and are in cahoots with them. The shop owners say either the cops drive past without doing anything, even though it is well know drug dealing hotspot, or when they stop money is openly exchanged and no arrests are made,

According to one business owner he has escalated the matter to the highest echelons of government and Roodepoort police has been instructed to investigate but with no results. He claims that he heard from a reliable source that the investigation officer warned his cronies in the force to lay low for a while and stay away from the dealers due to his investigation.

In the video a Metro Police van can be seen stopping at the corner where the drugs are being dealt. For a while they sit in the van and a drug dealer comes and leisurely talks by the window. At on stage the driver gets out and another drug dealer gets into the back of the van. (The shop owner said it is not an arrest, but the cops giving the dealer a ride and that he has seen this more than once).

According to an eyewitness the dealers then goes and fetch money and it is handed to the cops through the window. He said similar exchanges happen frequently.

We are waiting for comment from JMPD and the police.
