Crime trend coming to a neighborhood near you soon

Suspicious activities must be reported.

A new tactic by criminals to mark properties they later intend to target is slowly rearing its ugly head on the greater West Rand.

The first reports of this new way of marking houses has been reported and confirmed on the far West Rand, especially in Randfontein. Criminals are apparently using some kind of chemical going around neighbourhoods and spraying driveways and trees with the chemical at locations where they plan to conduct their criminal activities. According to the reports the markings are not visible to the naked eye during the day but can be clearly seen at night when a light, such as a flash light, is shun upon it.

The local CPF representatives the Record has spoken to said they have not come across it yet but are taking the reports very seriously and are prioritising it on the agendas of their next meetings. Caleb Finn of On Florida said he has come across various reports of this new modus operandi on various crime fighting social media platforms he belongs to, but that the Florida CPF has received no local reports yet.

“It is better to be proactive and start being vigilant before waiting to fall prey to this new trend,” said Finn.

Roodepoort and Florida Police could not be reached for comment.
