These facts will eggstound you

How often do you eat eggs?

The colour of an egg yolk is determined by a hen’s diet.

If it is dark yellow, the hen was fed green vegetables and if the yolk was light, it was fed corn.

Eggs are full of protein and are eaten almost everyday by people across the world.

Because World Egg Day is celebrated internationally today, we give you a few more interesting facts about it you may not have known:

• The average hen lays between 300 and 325 eggs a year

• The average American eats 250 eggs per year

• Eggs from Britain are illegal in America because they are not washed

• It takes a hen between 24 and 26 hours to produce an egg

• A hen turns her egg about 50 times everyday to prevent the yolk from sticking to the side

And for the punchline of the day: Blood can be used as an egg substitute to bake and make ice cream because of its similar protein composition.

So next time you want to bake a waffle or a sweet treat, do not feel bad if you do not have enough eggs.

How do you prefer your eggs and how often do you eat them?
