Danie’s judokas fly West Rand flag high

The judoka were not only representing their club but the West Rand district.

Judokas from the KJK Danie Judo Club are all smiles after they came back with medals from the South African National Schools Judo Tournament.

They participated in the event this past weekend which was hosted at the Portugese Hall in Turffontein.

In the novice section of the tournament, eight-year-old Jano Malherbe, 10-year-old Hanno de Klerk and 12-year-old Kayla Oosthuizen brought home gold medals.

Bronze medal went to 10-year-old Jaydon Conn.

In the girls division of the advanced section, 12-year-old Jayden Watkins won gold in the under 48kg section.

12-year-old Tegan Malherbe followed up her team mate’s success with a first place finish of her own in the under 52kg section.

14-year-old Tazmin Roussouw also won gold in the under 63kg section.

The boys did not disappoint as they too proved their mettle on the grand stage.

10-year-old Owen Watkins grabbed gold in the under 50kg section followed by 13-year Dewald Schultz who also won gold in the under 42kg section.

Hunter Erasmus was first place in the under 50kg section.

Ruben Cordier, Dylan Martin and Ronaldo Roussow won silver medals in the under 52, 50 and 60kg categoories respectively.
