The crime statistics that was released last week confirmed many’s suspicions that crime is totally out of control and is increasing rapidly.

Seeing that Roodepoort and Florida stations features very prominently on the worst crime lists, was no surprise either. The lack of cooperation and sharing information the Record receives from the police stations confirms this.

No matter how hard we try to obtain comment from one specific police station, the spokesperson is either not available, wasn’t aware of the various crimes committed and often ask us for the information. When we do inquire about crime in the area, we are told not much happened. For a long time I thought Roodepoort must be one of the safer areas to live in, based on the crime stats, I am very mistaken.

Needless to say, we have all but given up on trying to get information. This person seems to be completely oblivious to what is happening outside the four walls of the station.

In other news, the greyhound that was severely abused by his owner created an uproar in the community. My heart breaks for the dog who had to suffer at the hands on an incomplete person. We received some calls from the community voicing their disgust and contempt for this person. One even went as far as asking us for his address. I can only imagine what evil, albeit understandable, thought this man harbour.

We will keep you updated as the story unfold, but for now, the abuser has to remain anonymous because he hasn’t pleaded yet. We also received queries as to why the neighbour, who taped the whole ordeal, didn’t do anything. From what we understand the neighbour apparently notified and laid complaints numerous times but it fell on deaf ears. In the end the dog had to suffer.

Fortunately, the greyhound is now at peace and hopefully having a joyful time in doggie heaven. Exactly what he deserves.

That afternoon, after the news broke, I gave my doggie a big hug, kiss and a treat, just so that he knows he is very special to me. I hope you all did the same.

Treat your animals with respect, they are always happy to see you.

Until next week, take care of one another, and your animals.
Ciao
