Courier van robbed but police want to leave scene

Drivers traumatised but not injured.

At about 6pm on Friday night a RAM courier van was robbed of cell phones by two armed suspects.

The incident took place when the van stopped in front of the De Oude Goede townhouse complex in Steinmann Street to make a delivery. According to one of the traumatised employees two suspects came from both sides of the vehicle and ordered them by gunpoint to step out. They then proceeded to take some of the goods, which included cell phones and fled.

There were two police officers on the scene but they seemed reluctant to secure the crime scene and take statements. Two senior employees of RAM had trouble convincing them to stay. The reason for their odd behaviour is uncertain.

Roodepoort police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo said the incident and the officers’ actions will be investigated.
