Fire truck runs out of water at shack fire

Shacks gutted in fire.

About four shacks were gutted during a fire at Princess Informal Settlement at about 9.20am this morning.

Although no one was injured, the shacks were razed to the ground. Everywhere residents were streaming out of the settlement while some were trying to help the Emergency Management Services (EMS) to contain the fire by using water buckets to put it out.

About an hour after the fire trucks arrived they ran out of water and according to DA Councillor Dave Dewes a water tank had to be brought from Roosevelt Park.

“It is disgusting and pathetic,” said Dewes.
