Assault charges laid against two teachers

Police to visit school today.

A mother of two pupils at a Florida primary school has laid assault charges against two of its teachers after both her children alleged they were victims of corporal punishment.

According to the mother she came home on 8 September at about 7.30pm when she noticed the welts on her son’s hand. The son claims that his whole grade two class were being rowdy but the teacher only singled out himself and a few other class mates. She then proceeded to punish them by hitting them with two rulers over their hands.

“I could not believe that hours after he has been hit the marks were still red and swollen,” said the upset mother.

Her grade one daughter then also alleged that her teacher has been hitting her. The mother tried to confront the school about the incident but said she was treated rudely and that they did not bother to reply to her enquiries. The mother said both her children claimed that threats of corporal punishment were commonplace.

The Record asked the school to comment but their legal representative said they would comment after meeting with the Record. The meeting will take place on 24 September.
