I feel like I have been raped, says pupil after drug raid

The school declined to comment and said it will be investigating the matter.

Parents are up in arms after a drug raid at a local school which left some of the girls allegedly feeling sexually violated.

When the evacuation alarm was sounded, the children as per procedure, had to get under their tables. Some of the children thought the school was being robbed. According to one parent she received a disturbing cell phone message saying “mommy there is an armed robbery at the school. If something happens to me know I love you.”

Next the police came into the classroom and apparently locked the door. They confiscated the pupils cell phones, which they handed to the principal, but one father argues the children need it to access the Internet in order to do assignments since the school does not provide such facilities.

“The way my child and others were searched was totally unacceptable. They rubbed her breasts and they lifted up her skirt in the class in front of the boys. They then rubbed her a few times on her private parts, went back to her breasts and down between her legs again, this was done a couple of times,” said a parent who wants to stay anonymous fearing victimisation of the child.

“They did not even ask permission to search her . They searched another girl in the same manner as my child. I even received a phone call from a parent complaining that her daughter is crying and is very upset by the way they touched her as well. My daughter was upset and crying and said that she felt as if she was raped. She couldn’t even study that day?,” the parent went on to say.

“While they were doing this to her she was crying and the female cop just continued. When my daughter got home she said “mommy how are we supposed to trust cops and report sexual harassment when the cops do the same to us,” the parent concluded.

The school declined to comment and said it will be investigating the matter.

The Roodepoort Police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
