Future leaders at Horizon View Primary

The pupils have dressed up in the uniform of their chosen professions for the day.

Horizon View Primary School hosted their Career Day for the grade seven pupils today.

Guest speakers from various industries such as media, municipality, correctional services, South African Police Services and fire department were in attendance.

They had to tell the pupils about their chosen career, why they chose it and what it takes to be successful.

Life Orientation teacher Boitumelo Ramela, who is part of the team that worked hard to organize the event said she wanted a different approach to the event for the pupils to learn from.

“This is part of our curriculum to expose pupils early to career paths and not start thinking about it in high school. The pupils have dressed up in the uniform of their chosen professions for the day. We want them to follow their passion,” said.

West Rand Explosives Unit’s Sergeant Matsepo Mongale said she was invited to participate in the event to teach the pupils about the different career paths found in the police force.

“There are plenty of career options to choose from and I’m here as a proud woman in dignified blue to represent the police and get the pupils interested in our department,” she said.

The Honeydew’s Family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit sent detective constable Ramasela Ramashala as a representative.

“I want to teach the pupils the importance of my job and the need to report any sort of abuse. An adult, teacher or pastor are the first people a child should look to for help in such instances, if not they can dial 011 767 8000 for help,” she said.

The school just recently had a new principal Claudia Sono, who started at the beginning of the month.
