Vikings host boxing bash

The Chesa Nyama sponsored event was held at the Witpoortjie Recreational Centre.

The Witpoortjie Vikings Amateur Boxing Club hosted their first tournament in years this weekend.

Boxers from clubs across the province such as Alberton, Pretoria and Krugersdorp participated in the tournament.

With 23 matches arranged for the afternoon, boxing fans were in for a treat as they had the chance to watch the next generation of rising boxers.

The club’s head coach Phillip du Randt said the tournament, with the purpose of promoting the sport in the community and giving young boxers some experience, had been successful.

“The tournament has been a huge success. The response from the community has been great because they came to support in their numbers. With our sponsors Chesa Nyama trying to uplift boxing, I can’t find the words to express my gratitude. They have as much passion to advance the sport as we do and we are looking to host more tournaments,” he said.
