6 ways to conserve water

Save water at your home.

Because August is National Water Quality Month, the importance of conserving water is emphasised.

Using less water a day will decrease you water bill which could reduce the load off your pocket.

Here are reasons why you should prevent unnecessary water from flowing at your house:

1. Check if your toilet tank is leaking. Put food colouring in your toilet tank and if after 30 minutes the food colouring appears in the bowl, you have a leak.

2. Take shorter showers. Lather yourself with soap and use the shower to rinse yourself.

3. Close the tap after wetting your toothbrush. You can always fill a cup with water to rinse your mouth.

4. When washing dishes, do not let the tap run by rinsing them. Rather put water in a separate sink or bowl.

5. Water the grass only when needed. Step on the lawn and if the grass springs up when you move, it does not need watering. If it remains flat then it needs to be watered.

6. Use a broom and not a hose to clean the driveway.
