On Florida launches Bird Hide to protect birds

Raise awareness for the protection of wildlife.

By the end of this month, a fully upgraded Bird Hide Sanctuary will be available for residents to enjoy the beauty of the birds and learn more about these species.

The sanctuary was introduced by the On Florida Community Forum and will include educational discussions to raise awareness about all bird species and how to preserve these creatures.

Primedia Instore has donated R30 000 to On Florida for this project. According to Sjaas Reyneke, Exco chairperson, the money is going towards upgrading the Bird Hide for the benefit of residents.

The sanctuary will include toilet facilities, more walking and lounging space and a proper running water system.

“It is just to add to the beautiful scenery of Florida Lake and to preserve the wildlife of the Lake,” said Sjaas.

He added the challenges On Florida faces is trying to restore the park to its original glory despite the dumping of litter caused by residents in the area.

Once the project has been completed, more information will be released about when the facilities can be used.
