Local golfer wins at Glendower

Roodepoort golfer Cameron Swanepoel claimed an emphatic victory in The Els Family Tournament at Glendower Golf Club in Edenvale this weekend.

In just his first season in the A Division of the Glacier Junior Series, the 16-year-old clinched the title with a score of one-over-par 73.

His charge came in late in the afternoon with three players in the clubhouse with rounds of 74.

Cameron’s best finish on the series before was a second place in a B Division tournament.

It was the first time the Ruimsig Country Club player has played at Glendower and he said the greens were quick and the bunkers were well placed.

“It’s not an easy course. And I’m proud to have won on a golf course such as this with all its history. I’m very happy because I worked really hard for this win,” he said.
