15 young gymnasts from the Jozi Rhythmic Gymnastics Club represented Central Gauteng in the Gauteng Gymnastics Inter-provincial competition earlier this month.

The girls were among 500 pupils from all over the country who participated in the competition held in Fairlands.

The competition was divided into different levels and age categories.

In level 1, Handri van Tonder finished second overall in the U/11 section while Denicke Diedericks achieved third place overall for rope in the U/9 section.

Kalea Meyer scored third for the ball, third for the hoop and fourth overall in the U/8 section.

Tamika Labuschagne finished fourth overall for rope in the U/9 section and Chanel Pieterse received fourth position for rope and finished sixth overall in the U/7 section.

In level 2, Hannah Jacobs received sixth overall in the U/11 section while Hannah Griffith was awarded fourth position for ball in the U/11.

In the level 3 results, Isabella de Sousa placed second for her club’s routine and finished third position overall.

Jemma Atkinson won third position for ribbon and placed in fifth position overall while Dane Meyer placed eighth overall.

The club’s head coach Shalene Raath said she was happy with the achievements of her pupils.

“Out of the 15 girls, six received top six overall finishes and 10 of the girls received some sort of apparatus placing. This is an awesome achievement for us as it was our first competition season as a new club,” she said.
