There are a few things more powerful than the prayers of a righteous mother.

With this message, local resident Erika Sparks want to start a support group for mothers who have to face the stark reality of a child who is addicted to drugs on a daily basis. Not only does she want to teach mothers about the spiritual warfare mother and child has to fave, she also wants to encourage them to stay strong throughout the rehabilitation process.

“Teen Challenge, a counselling support group for all types of addicts, including gambling, alcohol and sexual addiction will attend the launch of the support group on 10 August at Solid Rock Church in Albert Street, Weltevreden Park. We aim to provide support to mothers, encourage and teach them about boundaries and enabling their child, not to be over-protective, remain consequent and discuss the child controlled parent,” Erika said.

She added that she completed a counelling course on drug addiction through the Rhema Church and her personal experience give her the advantage to be able to assist others. “Looking back I realise how many ‘mistakes’ I made. Although I don’t believe in tough love, mother’s need to be strong, they should not baby their child, don’t allow manipulation and know how to handle their child’s aggressive attitude.”

Erika said the launch of the support group will take from 2pm to 5pm. Entrance is free but tea and coffee will be on sale and each person will receive a goody bag.

For more information, call Erika on 083-644-8532 or Dee Mansfield from Teen Challenge on 082-421-3257.
