Visions Gymnasts impress in Cape Town

Visions Gymnastics members successful in Cape Town competition.

Muhammad Khaalid Mia finished first overall in the top junior section for men at the 2015 High Performance National Gymnastics Championships.

The competition was held in Cape Town last month.

His performance in the Mother City marks an incredible comeback by the gymnast who was one of 42 men who participated in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. He sustained an injury after the Olympic Games, spending months in recovery.

At the championships, Mia not only claimed a gold medal for finishing first overall, he also won two gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals.

Mia was not the only Visions Gymnastics member to excel at the competition. His training partner Juan Crous managed to finish third overall, claiming a bronze medal.

He also received one gold medal, two silver medals and three bronze medals.

The club brought home a remarkable 43 medals while two gymnasts were crowned new national champions in their respective age group.

Riccardo Colandrea came second overall in the HP 3 section, claiming two gold medals and a silver medal while his training partner Ruan Lange coming third overall with gold and silver medal.

Thys Steynberg achieved second overall, getting three gold medals and a silver medal in the apparatus finals.

David da Silva claimed two gold medals, a silver and bronze medal with Allen Marais grabbing three bronze medals in the apparatus finals.

Visions club captain, Bianca Mann competed in the senior Olympic section. She claimed a gold, silver and three bronze medals in the apparatus finals on day two of her competition.

Gabriella Colandrea came second overall, claiming three gold medals and Tamsyn Bessit came second overall in Class 3 with one gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal.

River Makings also made a comeback to competitive gymnastics, finishing fourth overall in the Men’s Senior Olympic section and received a bronze medal in the apparatus finals.

Eugene Ngcobo came third overall with bronze and silver medals in the apparatus finals.

Commonwealth Gold medalist, Simon Hutcheon made his comeback at the age of 38.

He claimed two silver medals in the High Bar and Floor apparatus finals but did not compete in the apparatus finals.

Simon finished sixth overall in his all-round competition.

In total, the club brought home 43 medals from the competition and will now turn their attention to the next series of competitions which will start later this month.
