From India: Byron recovering after brain cancer treatments

After two weeks of taxing Cyber Knife radiation treatments, Byron already feels better, his mother said.

News from India is that Byron Ball, a 26-year-old with advanced brain cancer, is recovering well following special treatments with Cyber Knife technology.

Maggie Bailie and her son Byron jetted off to Bangalore on 19 June where he was admitted to the Health Care Global facility. Treatments commenced on 22 June and continued for two weeks. Communication to her South African family has been difficult, but Maggie managed to post an update to her facebook profile yesterday (30 June).

“Byron has had his Cyber Knife radiation treatment; it was completed on 29 June.

“He is disoriented and his brain is swollen following the sessions.”

Maggie added that Byron has been administered a steroid-based medication to reduce the swelling on his brain. She explained how each session works.

“[Byron] laid under Cyber Knife radiation, on a table with a mould bolted onto the bed over his head for an hour each session.

“He had five of these treatments, all taking place at night.”

According to his mother Byron is feeling better following the treatments and said pains he was used to experiencing every day has already diminished.

“We have strong faith and are positive Byron will have a full recovery.”

It has not yet been confirmed when they will return to their home in Horizon View.

The pair will have to travel back to India in three months’ time (by September) for a follow-up consultation to review the treatments’ results.
