Spar Women’s Challenge teams up with Fitbit

The SPAR Women’s Challenge Pretoria organising committee took on a few challenges of their own.

The organising committee of the SPAR Women’s Challenge Pretoria took on a few challenges of their own.

They decided this year’s race would be centred on the theme Stepping For those in need.

Each member of the committee was given a Fitbit wristband to count just how many steps they would be taking while planning this year’s race.

“Our goal with wearing the Fitbit activity trackers was to show all the women out there who don’t believe they could complete a 5km or 10km race, that actually in the course of their busy daily lives they walk this distance everyday without realising it. Once we had our race theme in place, a partnership with Fitbit was a natural next step,” said SPAR North Rand Marketing Director Jerome Jacobs.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge brand ambassadors were also given their own Fitbit wristbands to wear.

They were asked to report back on the distances they covered by carrying out normal tasks such as shopping, running around after the kids or just a long day at the office.

The results so far proved that every woman often completes at least a 5km marathon without realising it.

“We hope this idea inspires women to take part in the race instead of choosing to sit it out because they have no idea what they are really capable of. One of our goals has always been to extend the race beyond a once off, one day event and for it to become a lifestyle,” said Jacobs.
