Man with arrow in neck airlifted

A man with an arrow stuck in his neck was airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital this weekend following a seeming freak accident at a home in Poole Street.

Various emergency services responded to the scene along with the Florida CPF Sector 2, ICE (In Case of Emergency) and M&D (Maraisburg and Delarey) Community Policing.

A medic from Quick Response Service (QRS) said the man had shot himself with a crossbow by accident. Code Red EMS moved the patient to Albertina Sisulu Street from Netcare 911’s helicopter, Netcare 1, transported the stabilized but critical patient to Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha has not released an official statement yet, but committed to the Record more details will be released.

A Florida CPF Sector 2 patroller first responded to the scene and detailed his experience to the Record.

“I received a message on my cell phone from one of the neighbours, alerting me of a problem there,” he said.

“When I got to the address, a man came towards the door and later to the gate and I noticed the arrow stuck in his neck. He was very shaky. I asked him to grab hold of me and alerted various EMS of the incident.

“Medics, later on scene, were not sure whether the stuck arrow was life threatening. Netcare decided to dispatch their helicopter and we cordoned off Albertina Sisulu Road, near the Apple Bite roadhouse, for them.”

He confirmed the man is in his late 40s and doesn’t have medical aid, which is why he was transported to a government hospital. It has not yet been confirmed for what purpose the crossbow was used.

On Florida’s Caleb Finn said Florida Police are investigating the matter.
