BREAKING: Drugs worth R2m, drug lab found

Drugs and laboratory discovered after police were called out to a house breaking incident.

This afternoon (Wednesday 20 May) Honeydew Police uncovered a drug laboratory and drugs worth R2 million.

The discovery followed a house breaking complaint in Weltevreden Park that they investigated around 2.20pm, spokesperson Karen Jacobs told the Record.

“A drug manufacturing room was then discovered,” she said.

“Inside the room, different machines were found which were used to manufacture methcathinone [street name ‘cat’].”

Jacobs confirmed that approximately 10 kilograms of the drug was found in the room, worth an approximate street value of R2 million.

No arrests have yet been made with regards to the discovery, Jacobs said. The house was found to have been broken into, but police could not tell whether the perpetrators were scared off or knew of the drugs.

“The tenants renting the room was not at home at the time,” she explained.

“Detectives are following up information to trace them.”
