South African talent shines at Eisteddfod

The academy is run by multi-award winning actress Brumilda van Rensburg.

The audience at the Pro-Musica theatre were left in awe as 26 young artists and groups showed off their talent in the final round of the 12th National Eisteddfod Academy Young Performer Awards Competition.

From music and dance to drama, the talented youngsters entertained for a chance to win R50 000 in prize money, gold, silver and bronze medals and a seven week course to study at Brumilda Acting Academy Agency for the Best Performer in Speech and Drama.

This year’s panel of adjudicators was comprised of well-known personalities such as Des Lindberg, Je-Ani Swiegelaar, Thabiso Lekuba, Adelaide Joshua Hill and Ockie Vermeulen.

Entertainment veteran Denver Vraagom had the audience in stitches as the master of ceremonies.

The NEA, a non-profit organisation for youth development in music, dance, drama and visual arts, has been presenting this competition for top achievers since 2004.

“This competition provides a high-level platform where young artists can compete and grow in preparation for the competitive, challenging and very difficult professional stages of the world. It was an excellent night and anyone could win it. Im really glad I was not the judge tonight because the talent was just amazing and you could tell from the audience response. What is even more amazing is that the performers tonight were learners,” said NEA CEO Dr Francois van den Berg.
