Last week the Record team decided to launch a WhatsApp group.

We wanted to create a platform to give even more readers access to news as it breaks. The idea is to send out a WhatsApp at least three times a day with breaking and community news. The same as with our BBM messages.

This was a huge success and within days, we received hundreds of WhatsApp messages from readers who wanted to join the service.

Things started to spiral out of control and somehow the messages were duplicated which gave the impression that we have created three WhatsApp groups. This means they would receive the same message three times.

Technology is a wonderful thing, but it also can cause many headaches. Some of the messages we received from readers were less than friendly and I apologise for the inconvenience. We are working on the problem and hopefully, it will be sorted out soon.

Another problem we are experiencing is that readers want to use this service to ask for information such as load shedding schedules, asking councillors or the Record to call them and sending domestic vacancy adverts to them.

This service is strictly to receive news breaking news. I wish I could attend to every request, but it is just not possible.

Please regard the WhatsApp messages as a source of information only. We will not answer any of your requests. You are welcome to visit our website or call the office on 011-955-1130 with your requests.

In the meantime, please be patient, we will sort out the duplication of your numbers very soon.

Enjoy the rest of the week and take care of one another.
Ciao
