Wrestlers claim medals at championship

The club is open to people interested In amateur wrestling. Practice is on Monday and Wednesday from 6.15 to 8pm.

The West Rand Wrestling Club was all smiles when two of their wrestlers came home with medals last month.

The wrestlers were representing Central Gauteng Wrestling Association at the South African Presidents and Masters Championships held in Pretoria.

Johan Beukes claimed a silver medal in the freestyle wrestling section of the Masters division while Riehan Botha won two silver medals in the U/13 freestyle and Greco wrestling style.

“It was great to be there although it was stressful. I enjoy wrestling because it gives me an adrenaline rush,” said Riehan.

Johan will now concentrate on the upcoming Wrestling World Championships while Riehan will be looking forward to the South African Wrestling Championships.

The club will be hosting their Welpie Wrestling Tournament at the Witpoortjie Recreational Centre.
