Small Goldman business allegedly selling drugs

Rumour has it that a small business on Goldman Street sells drugs on the side to make up overhead costs.

Entrepreneurs in the busy CBD are worried the alleged drug sales will hinder their businesses. Should potential new customers or loyal customers realise drugs are being sold in broad daylight near their shops, they’re afraid customers would be driven away.

Not only do entrepreneurs allege that a specific shop sells drugs but that it also has a system by which to let its underground clients know whether they are “open” or “closed” by moving certain advertisement boards. It is also alleged that casual employees of a nearby shop are runners for the drug dealers, to earn extra income.

Furthermore it has been alleged that residents of the flats above the store are also in on the drug dealings.

Florida Police station commander, Colonel Cassie Rautenbach, personally took notice of information made available to them after the Record started investigating.

The story will be updated as it develops.

What has been your experience? Are drugs being used and sold openly on Goldman Street? Are businessmen in on it? Tell us in the comment section below or via email to mathildem@caxton.co.za
