Holes for charity

The Kingsway Centre of Concern in Randpark Ridge hosted its annual charity golf day at CMR Golf Club this weekend.

The event, sponsored by Stallion Security Property Services had 16 four-ball teams participating, some in an occupational capacity.

According to organizer Marelise Bekker more than R140 000 was raised.

All funds raised will go towards Kingsway Centre of Concern, an non-profit organization (NPO) comprised of two organisations, Kingsway Christian School and Thandanani House of Refuge.

Kingsway initially started in a garage in 1986 when people noticed several children spending their days on the street and not in school.

“We support the very disadvantaged children from the Zandspruit Informal Settlement, Honeydew, and surrounding areas. Our school has 265 children, from Grade 00 to Grade 7 and Thandanani houses 25 children from neglected and orphaned backgrounds. We rely mostly on donations from individuals and corporations for our operational expenses which exceed R150 000 on a monthly basis. This golf day helps us meet these expenses. Christian School and Thandanani House of Refuge thanks Sim de Wet, MD of Stallion for their continued and generous support for nine years,” said Marelise.
