Stan down in Cape Town

Stan Andrews will be participating in the Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town on the 25 and 26 April.

Stand will enter as an individual in the Para-Tri 4 category.

“I did my first triathlon in 2013 and love all three disciplines, and at the moment I’m running very well. I also enjoy a game of golf when I have the time. To date, I’ve done 15 triathlons, including the Ironman 70.3 as well as Olympic and sprint distances,” said Stan.

The 36-year-old amputee will be one of 130 elite triathletes from 80 countries who will participate in this year’s Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town.

This will be the fourth event in the ten city tour, which finishes in Chicago later this year.

It is only the second time that a leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series will be hosted on the African continent, with the finish at the brand new Green Point Athletics Stadium.

Andrews is the founder of a non-profit organisation called StandwithStan, which provides disadvantaged amputees with quality prosthetics.

“I work for the StandwithStan organisation full time and use all of my triathlons to raise awareness and funds. I gave up my professional career at the end of 2014 to pursue my passion of assisting other amputees. It has been tough but I can’t and won’t turn back. We provide prosthetics for disadvantaged amputees in order for them to lead a normal life again. Anybody wishing to find out more can visit any of our social media platforms,” said Stan.

Participants have the option to enter either the Sprint or Olympic distance and para-triathletes (PT2 – PT5) can enter the Sprint event.

Team relays for both distances are also on the schedule and entrants can participate from the age of 11.

The Sprint distance includes a 500m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run.

The Olympic distance includes a 1 500m swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run.

The minimum age for the Olympic individual is 18 and for teams, 16.

Schools are also welcome to enter teams in this special category.
