Maragon Private School opens hockey astro turf

The astro turf is a positive contribution to the school.

Maragon Private School officially opened its brand new hockey astro turf this weekend.

Maravest CEO Gideon van Niekerk and Maravest COO Jopie Maasdam were present at the ceremony.

“It is a great facility and fits right in with our sports ambition to be the best school in hockey. This facility strengthens that ambition and our ability to offer the best. We completed this project to offer our pupils and community the best. This is a positive contribution,” said Van Niekerk.

Maragon Private School invited Kings School West Rand and Randfontein High School to compete on the astro turf for the first time as part of the celebrations.

In the opening match, Maragon boys first team faced off against Kings School West Rand first team.

Maragon beat their opponents 3-0 thanks to goals from Joshua Scannel, Nathan van Muylwyk and Ioanni Leontiou.

Maragon girls first team then went up against Randfontein High School girls.

The difference in skill was evident as Maragon romped to a first half lead of 6-0. In the second half, the girls added four more goals.

The final score was 10-0 victory to Maragon girls.
