One dead and 13 injured in taxi collision

A collision between a taxi and a bus this morning has left one woman dead and 13 injured.

One woman died and thirteen were injured this morning after a collision between a bus and a taxi on the N1 near the Maraisburg off-ramp.

ER24 paramedics along with other services arrived on scene and found a large bus parked in the emergency lane of the highway.

A wrecked taxi lay between the centre mediums splitting the highways.

Paramedics assessed the scene and found the lifeless body of a woman in her 30s lying a few metres away from the taxi.

She had already succumbed to her severe injuries.

Paramedics found 12 other patients scattered around the taxi while another man was found trapped inside the taxi.

Three patients were in a critical condition while the remaining patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life and cut away the roof of the taxi to free the trapped man.

Paramedics provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support and thereafter transported them to various hospitals for urgent medical attention.

The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and transported to nearby hospitals for further observations.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, the taxi rear-ended the bus, causing the taxi to roll into the centre medium.
