Boy (8) injured in bicycle accident

Brake failure leads to 8 year old injured

An eight-year-old boy was injured after he was knocked from his bicycle by a delivery vehicle on Market Road in Newlands yesterday.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the injured boy at the side of the road.

Netcare 911 Media Liaison Officer Santi Steinmann said the boy verbalised that he was trying to stop at the intersection, when his bicycle’s brakes failed.

This resulted in him landing in front of the vehicle crossing the intersection.

Paramedics assessed the boy and found he had sustained serious injuries.

After receiving treatment at the scene, the boy was transported to hospital for further medical care.

The occupants of the vehicle were not injured during the accident.
