Davidsonville to host soccer tournament

The Roodepoort Sports Development will host a soccer tournament in Davidsonville.

The Roodepoort Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) will be kicking off its first annual Region C Cup Soccer tournament next weekend 27 February till the 8 March.

The tournament, hosted at the Davidsonville Soccer stadium will have 16 teams from across the region participate.

The teams will be divided into four groups of four to compete against each other in a round robin basis.

The round robin games will consist of two 30 minute halves with each team guaranteed three games each.

The top two teams of each group will advance to the quarterfinal where the knockout rule will apply.

In the final, the two halves will be extended to 45 minutes.

With an entry fee of R2500, the cash prizes for the top four teams will be big.

Prize money for the winner will be R10 000 plus a trophy and medals, the runners-up will receive R4000, a trophy and a medals, third position will be R2500 plus a shield and medals.

Fourth position will also be awarded R1500.

“FIFA rules will apply so the tournament will be strict and fair. Preperations are almost done so spectators should come out in their numbers to see the best teams participate in the competition. We will also have junior teams participating to make the tournament fun and entertaining for everyone,” said RSDF chairman Theo Van Rensburg.
