Maragon head girl’s unselfish charity

Exciting career options in this field.

Maragon High School’s head girl, Karli Coetzee has been honoured with the Lead SA –Youth Leader award from Primedia.

Karli who is now 17, started the “Hands from Heaven” charity at the age of 15. This is a charity in aid of the Mug and Tree Nursery School in Burgershoop, Krugersdorp. She helped to build a brand new school and was the mastermind behind huge drives to get people to donate everything from building materials to food to bathroom equipment. She negotiated sponsorships from businesses and got her family and friends involved to help drop off donations which was received at certain collection points.

Karli sacrifices a mammoth amount of time and effort helping these less fortunate children and their families, says Maragon’s spokesperson Belinda Espag.

She has also obtained the bronze and silver certificates for the Youth Leadership Presidents Award and is currently busy with her gold certificate which she will complete by the end of this year. This involves a massive amount of community service and charity work.

She was handed the award at a ceremony at the nursery school on last Tuesday.

Karli says she hopes this will inspire other youngsters in SA to also become involved and that it will assist this group of people to get more sponsorships they desperately need.
