Unemployed scammed

scam warning

Community members advertising themselves for employment in the record are advised to be cautious when meeting prospective employers.

This comes after a woman was robbed of her passport, money and clothing after being called for an interview in a parking lot.

The woman, who was looking for a job as a domestic worker, placed an advert in the record. She was then called for an interview and went with all her belongings.

After meeting the man, she was asked to buy airtime at a nearby shop and left her belongings with the man. On her return, the man had left.
Surprise Mudau, who also advertised herself, had a close call after a man also called her about a job. She was asked to provide her proof of address, a certified copy of her I.D and open a Postbank account.
She would then put the documents in an envelope and meet the man in Sandton. Mudau got suspicious when the man asked for the account pin number. She did not contact the man again.
