Davidsonville Tennis Club opens its courts

Davidsonville Tennis Club has a grand opening for its courts.

The Davidsonville Tennis Club had their grand opening this weekend.
More than 100 children filled the courts with excitement and anticipation of the day’s events.
Guests from South African Tennis, Roodepoort Sports Foundation, Mogale City and Daveyton tennis clubs, City of Joburg Sports and Recreation and ward 71 councillor Gert Niemand were all in attendance.
SA development coach Patrick Tsunke took the children through their paces, demonstrating training methods used at the highest level of the sport.
One of the main aims of opening the courts is to get children in the area to be active in a different sport and to get them off the streets where they could get hurt.
Charles Visser and Charles Mazenge, who have their level 1 and 2 coaching certificates, will focus on children from the ages of 10 to 16 while those older are also welcome to play for fun.
Visser said he was proud that the club opened and he looks forward to recruiting the youth of Davidsonville.
“It is a great honour to have so many people come to the club and I want to thank them for the commitment. We want to grow the sport in Davidsonville so we can have a world number one come from our club. And a special thank you goes to Christopher and Fatima Rifles who fed everyone today and made sure we have a good day,” said Visser.
