As it develops: The Bedford Centre shootout

At least two shoppers and two security guards reportedly were injured in a shooting incident in Bedford Centre, Bedfordview this morning (29 January).

Cash-in-transit robbers were trapped in the centre in Bedfordview after police and Metro Police put the area into lockdown.

Two women were wounded when several shots were fired, reported the Bedfordview Edenvale News. Witnesses reported hearing automatic gunfire.

The journalist reportedly saw people trying to get out of the centre.

By 11.50am one suspect was shot and subsequently arrested.

Later it was reported that members of the SAPS Flying Squad were seen entering the centre.

A second suspect was shot just after 12.30pm and received treatment on scene. Two shoppers and two security guards reportedly were injured.

By 1.35pm shoppers still were trapped inside Bedford Centre. They will be allowed to leave once the Bedfordview Police have cleared the scene.

The number of suspects have not been confirmed yet.

According to Bedfordview journalist Duenna Mambana, who is at the scene, police members confiscated unlicensed firearms including AK47 rifles and one 9mm pistol.

Those injured during the shooting earlier today are in a stable condition in hospital. The one injured suspect is still on the scene, reportedly unconscious.
