Long walk for rhino conservation

Twenty-five- year old Francois Myburgh is once again doing his bid to raise money towards rhino preservation.

Myburgh’s passion to contribute to this worthy project is extending to a third 150km Rhino Walk planned for 3 to 6 March. He said the walk starts at Midrand (Gautrain station) through Sandton, Rosebank, Witpoortjie, Krugersdorp and en at Magalies Park in Skeerpoort.

“I successfully completed the first Rhino Walk on 11 July last year in three days and I successfully completed a second 100km walk on 4 November also in three days where I collected an amount of R5 327,75 to go towards Rhino preservation,” Myburgh said and added that he is looking for sponsorship to go towards this cause.

He said he is also planning a Rhino fun day on 28 March at the West Rand Bird and Pet farm. “I’m doing this because I love nature and animals. As far as I know there are only about 20 000 rhinos left and the money can be used to train people to look after rhinos. They are such beautiful animals,” Myburgh said and added that every cent he collects go straight to the organisation. “I don’t keep anything for myself.”

Other projects that are in the pipeline is Walking for Elephants. “My focus at the moment is rhinos and I won’t stop walking until I reach R100 000 to be equally divided between four organisations. I usually stop at businesses during the walk to create awareness about rhino conservation.”
