Sword murder-accused boy, 16, in court in February

The teenage boy, 16, that stands accused of murdering his grandmother with a sword will be in court soon.

His next court date is set for Wednesday 4 February in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.

The lawyer that his family appointed, Aadil Lambat of the Fullard Mayer Morrison firm in Sandton, previously said that the boy is being assessed by a panel of experts pending the next court date. At the time he said no further press statements will be made by the family.

Speaking to him a week before the next court date, Lambat to the record said that a psychological assessment of the teenager is not yet complete.

“We hope to wrap the assessment up by next Wednesday,” he said.

A sword that allegedly belongs to the boy was used to stab and kill his 76-year old grandmother in their home in Roodepoort North on 15 December last year. The boy was arrested at a friend’s house in Georginia later that day.

He has been admitted to Bosasa Youth Development Centre that looks after youth that is in conflict with the law.
