Baby Moses gets early Christmas Surprise

Strubens Valley-based ladies gym Curves surprised the children of Baby Moses Child Sanctuary today with a Christmas party.

Strubens Valley-based ladies gym Curves surprised the children of Baby Moses Child Sanctuary today with a Christmas party.

The gym had asked its members and staff to come with suggestions of local charities to support and Baby Moses was chosen after extensive research.

“We wanted to support a place that did not receive much attention from big corporations. From the long list of charities our members gave us, we did some research and found that Baby Moses was in need of assistance,” said Curves branch manager Nathanie Hislop.

The gym members then selected a child’s name and decorate a box filled with goodies such as shoes, toys, clothing and gifts in accordance with the child’s age and gender.

Although the children will open their gifts on Christmas morning, they were clearly excited as they saw their names on the beautifully decorated boxes but had to settle for some burgers and pizza from Rotendal’s Pizza Perfect.

Nicky Barnard who manages Curves has been heavily involved in the organization of the party and said that helping others even a little bit will make a difference

“I want to do good for people and help them as much as I can. Doing this won’t make us any poorer. We have to help families like this who open up their homes for others and offer a helping hand,” said Barnard.

Gail Morgan –Smith, Curves gym members was also present at the party and said that she was happy to give a helping hand and be more involved in such charities.

“It is important to support the lesser known places such as Baby Moses because the children need this. The system is not adequate enough to help these children so being more active helps,” she said.

The Baby Moses Child Sanctuary currently has 115 children spread out across 13 homes. Christo and Lani de Klerk who run Baby Moses Child Sanctuary said they were grateful for the party and help from community members.

“The children are very happy and excited with the party. This tells a story to the community about who we are and we hope that more people can get involved with the Sanctuary and help in any way they can,” said De Klerk.
