On Florida reaches out to CoJ

Synergy is the way forward, says community organisation.

On Florida, the community forum, held a luncheon on Wednesday with the aim to build relationships between the community and the various service entities of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ).

The event was attended by almost 20 representatives from 11 departments including the director of Region C, Lemi Berlot. Some of the departments in attendance were the Metro Police, SA Police, Emergency Management Services (EMS), City Parks, City Power, Customer Relations and Urban Management (Crum) and the Department of Health.

In the opening address, George Taylor of On Florida said, “It is important to talk with one voice when addressing issues.” He also explained that this community forum has been formed to assist the various departments in attendance with their service delivery.

Caleb Finn followed, giving a brief history of On Florida from its humble beginnings as a facebook page.

Before lunch was served Sjaas Reyneke, chairperson of On Florida outlined the organisation’s vision and aims.

“It is easy to criticise. We rather should come up with an agreement, cooperation and synergy so the combined result of the team always can be better than the result of the individual,” said Reyneke. He also invited the various departments to brainstorm such a plan with On Florida in the near future.

“We want this plan to become so successful that the whole country can use it as a blueprint.”
