Three dead, 17 injured in N1 accident

Three people died in a taxi accident on the N1 North Highway near the Maraisburg exit this morning (5 November).

It is believed that the minibus taxi’s tyre burst causing it to roll multiple times, eventually stopping in the fast lane.

Three people died.

Seventeen patients were treated on the scene on the highway, Eyewitness News reported earlier today.

ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring says seventeen injured people were lying around the taxi and across the highway.

“Four people were trapped inside the vehicle and were in a critical condition,” Russell says a press statement.

“Paramedics had to use the Jaws of Life to save those trapped before treatment could continue.”
