Florida crime hot spots identified

Colonel Rautenbach reports crime tendencies in Florida during late August/ early September.

The police in cooperation with the Florida CPF and the Our Neighbourhood Florida Forum have identified certain crime hot spots in Florida.

Colonel Rautenbach wrote to member Caleb Finn, confirming at least four hot spots in the Florida area, as well as what crimes are committed where. According to his report Constantia Kloof, Discovery, Florida and Florida Park have had certain crime tendencies during late August and early September. In Constantia Kloof, he wrote, housebreakings are currently trending, whereas in Discovery there have been many incidents of theft from motor vehicles and cable theft. Florida has seen incidents of assault, malicious damage to property, housebreaking and vehicle theft on the rise. In Florida Park cable theft is also a problem.

Peak crime times were stated to be on Mondays between 8am and 12 noon, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 4pm and 8pm, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 8am and 12 noon and Sundays between 12 noon and 4pm.

“The community must be vigilant about their area and make sure that they are not being followed when travelling home from the bank or a shopping centre.

“A few incidents have occurred where victims were followed and were approached to be robbed the minute they were stationary in their driveways.”

Rautenbach made a few recommendations for security companies and wrapping up crime scenes.

“Security companies need to sensitise their guards as there is a new tendency whereby guards are targeted and robbed of their firearms.

“All incidents by which fingerprints were not taken within 24 hours after the crime was reported, must be reported to this office (Florida) to be followed up.

“When suspicious activity is noted please contact the sector managers or sector vehicles.

“If any problems are experienced with the sector vehicles or their contact details please forward the details to both myself and Lieutenant Colonel Marite.”

Should calls to the sector numbers not be answered, Rautenbach requests that the Florida Police Station be contacted on 011 831 7020 or 011 831 7040. Any further information or complaints can be forwarded to Colonel Rautenbach, the station commander at rautenbachC@saps.gov.za.
