Councillor tackles Discovery

Discovery in dire need of attention.

Councillor Carl Mann, accompanied by Sue Tyson of the Discovery Community Forum, recently did an in-depth inspection of Discovery.

According to Mann’s preliminary report it is clear he has his work cut out for him.

Mann says many of the problems he has brought to the City’s attention as long ago as two years. The following problems have been identified that need urgent attention:

• More than 20 storm-drain covers are missing.

• Various stop signs have been stolen or vandalised.

• Electrical substations’ covers and doors have been stolen or are standing open, which poses a danger.

• The trees in parks needs pruning, to be sawn off or fallen over trees need to be removed.

• Unisa staff are parking illegally on a church terrain close to the campus.

• Land is being used illegally in Phillips Street.

• Two drug houses have been identified in Micheal Collins Street.

• Illegal building that has taken place in Micheal Collins Street.

• Road markings are non existent in various locations.

• Blue cats eyes that have to identify fire hydrants for fire trucks are missing.

• Balustrades on Wilgerood Road and Christiaan de Wet Road are missing.

• At the same roads the intersection markings are worn.

• Speed humps need to be implemented on Liebenberg Road close to Constantia Primary School and the nearby crèche.

• Traffic-calming measures need to be taken on Panorama Road due to Joburg Water trucks speeding there and making noise at night time.

• Rampant illegal dumping has to be addressed.

• Residents’ garden refuse and building rubble are dumped illegally.

• Parents are blocking the road at La Salle College when they drop off their children, which prevents law-enforcement vehicles, emergency vehicles and the neighbourhood watch from driving through.

Mann says once he has finalised the report the corresponding service entity department will be notified.
