Lantern School celebrates its 30th birthday.

Lantern School of Excellence hosts gala revue in the school hall.

The Lantern School of Excellence hosted a revue gala evening in the school’s hall on 14 August. Celebrating 30 years of the school’s existence, the theatrical entertainment themed Around the world in 30 years was attended by distinguished guests. A flutist welcomed the guests with his sweet melodies.

Lantern School of Excellence is a remedial school and caters for pupils from Grades 1 to 12 with specific learning barriers. The school offers the same subjects as mainstream schools.

The show, portraying a flight from the Republic of Lantern to England was a remarkable one featuring flight attendants and a pilot. Everybody enjoyed the pupils’ energy and well-rehearsed performance. The event was a resounding success with parents, pupils, teachers and guests leaving the dazzling hall joyfully after two hours of laughter and singing.

“It is exciting to see teachers participating in such events. Sometimes one needs to release your inner child,” says Mish Tshabalala, Deputy Director of the Gauteng Department of Education.

Sadly the school also bade farewell to Jill Nourse, deputy principal of the high school who will be leaving at the end of the year. She was described as the oil in the lamp and a true leader to both staff and pupils.

“It is rare to find a teacher who wakes up every morning and cherishes being one. The results we see at the school today of is because of Jill’s dedication to her work,” says school principal Mr Groenewalt
