JP gets ton, Proteas declare.

After JP Duminy reached his fourth test century, the Proteas declared on 455.

South Africa declared their first innings on 455 for nine once JP Duminy reached his century in the last session of the second day of the first test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Thursday.

Morne Morkel’s departure, after playing across the line and seeing his off stump removed for 22, brought to an end of the innings. Duminy was not out on 100 while Dilruwan Perera finished with figures of 4-162.

The left-handed Duminy did very well to help steady the Proteas’ innings after the visitors lost three wickets since resuming at the overnight 268-5.

The Sri Lankan bowlers toiled in hot and humid conditions until they got their first breakthrough of the post-lunch session in the form of fast bowler Vernon Philander’s wicket.

Philander was out leg before wicket off skipper Angelo Mathews but he asked for a review as he felt the ball had hit him high on the pads. However, Hawk Eye upheld the on-field umpire’s call.

Philander faced 96 balls and shared 75 runs for the eighth wicket with Duminy who drove Mathews through the extra-cover boundary to take South Africa past the 400-run mark.
