Friendly just for World Cup prep

Coach Pauw is using the friendly to scrutinize her team.

Banyana Banyana coach Vera Pauw will use Saturday’s friendly against Namibia as an opportunity to gain information and prepare for the African Women’s Championship (AWC).

The South African women’s team, who arrived in Namibia on Wednesday, are hoping to use the friendly encounter as part of their preparations for the AWC set to take place in October.

“The ladies are getting stronger with each match, the approach to each game has been different and I’m happy to see the adaptation to these. Each match we play takes us one step closer to achieving our goal of building a strong competitive team,” Pauw was quoted on KickOff.

“Namibia is a team that is also improving under Jacqui Shipanga, and for us to get an opportunity to play against them ahead of the Championships will give us an opportunity to know a bit about them, in case we have to play them during the tournament.”

The three teams that finish top in the AWC will qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
