Impey claiming ignorance

Daryl Impey claims he does not know how he failed an anti-doping test

South African Cyclist Daryl Impey, who on Wednesday confirmed that he had failed an anti-doping test for the making agent Probenecid, has explained that he is unaware on how he obtained the substance.

The Orica-GreenEdge rider who last year became the first African rider to wear the yellow jersey on the Tour de France has reiterated that every result he has achieved has been as a result of hard work.

Impey told EWN Sport: “I have no knowledge about how the substance got into my system. I have no knowledge of the substance.

“Every result that I have achieved to date has been as a result of hard work and dedication on my part,” the Johannesburg-born racer continued.

“I remain confident that I will be vindicated and proved innocent of any wrongdoing.

“The notification came as a complete shock to me just days before the start of the Tour de France, particularly since anti-doping tests conducted on me on 8 and 9 February 2014 yielded no adverse results.”

As per team Orica-GreenEdge code of conduct, Impey won’t feature on the team’s roster until the case is closed and he is free to ride.
