Botes: ‘I will stay in the PSL’

Namibian striker to remain in PSL.

Veteran Namibian striker Henrico Botes says that he will remain in the Premier Soccer League following his release by Platinum Stars.

The North West club decided against exercising a one-year extension on the striker’s contract, bringing an end to his seven years of service to Dikwena.

However, Botes is adamant that he will transfer to another top flight club in South Africa: “I am moving to another club in the PSL and all I am just hoping for is to be still able to play against them [Platinum Stars].”

He added, “With regards to the clubs that I have been talking to we are now just negotiating the finer details.”

The Namibian forward insists he had no differences with Stars coach Allan Freese and “wasn’t really shocked” by his release.

“They [Stars] had an option on my contract but they chose not to renew so it means I have to move on. I was called into a meeting with Senzo Mazingiza [football manager] and was told I am not in the coach’s plans going forward.

“However, I have to state that I had no differences with the coach as I always maintained a professional approach at all times. For me life doesn’t end there even though I spent seven years at the club and won silverware only in my last season with them.

“I wasn’t really shocked to be told I am not in the plans anymore because I could sense from the time when I wasn’t playing anymore that this could mean something else but I was still hopeful.

“In the end it is all part of football and I am not bitter because I will still be playing football again in a different jersey,” said Botes.
