Double dose of crime hits the Nels

A second car belonging to Kobus Nel was stolen.

A double dose of bad luck hit the Nels as a second vehicle was stolen yesterday afternoon (15 May).

Kobus and Annatjie Nel and their daughter Jackie already were victims of crime when her daughter’s vehicle was stolen on the same morning. At around 9am two men jumped the wall at their house in Adam Tas Street and dragged Annatjie into the house, tied her up and stole her rings and cellphone. They then took her daughter’s vehicle from the driveway.

She had to rush home from work and open a case with the police. She helped her mother to wash down the walls after police had looked for fingerprints in the house.

“They could not find any clear fingerprints,” she said.

Her dad was on his way home from work at around 4pm and decided to stop at the Witpoortjie Shopping Centre to buy something for his wife. His red Toyota Conquest, registration number CJD 771 GP, was parked on Dirkie Uys Avenue. When he left Pick n Pay and returned to where his vehicle was parked, it was missing.

Nel was frustrated because the sector police he had contacted after the theft was not available on their cellphones. By 6pm he had not been able to get the police out to his house to open a case.

This morning (Friday 16 May) the police came to see him at around 8am, he said. A case of vehicle theft was opened but Nel had not received a case number yet.

“In total between the two vehicles, we have suffered about R100 000 in damages,” he said.

“It has been a terrible 24 hours for my family.”
