Lesotho minister visits West Rand

Networking among parties might bring business to Tarlton and Roodepoort.

Lesotho soon could be importing vegetables from Tarlton and joining hands with other local businesses if An-Mari and Francois Tolmay have any say in the matter.

The entrepreneur couple entertained Lesotho’s Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, John Thesele Maseribane in Krugersdorp and Roodepoort on Friday. They met Maseribane at a ladies’ 4×4 event in Lesotho last year, where they represented the 4-Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa. An-Mari invited him to explore the West Rand to network with the owners of farms and other businesses.

Meeting up in Krugersdorp Francois, who is a recreational pilot, treated Maseribane to a bird’s-eye view of the West Rand. From the Mogale City Aerodrome they set off to Tarlton and flew over the Hartbeespoort Dam. Afterwards Greenway Farms marketing manager Jenavive Sequiera took him to Rugani Carrots in Tarlton to learn about the farm’s operations. To finish off the day he was treated to lunch at Wimpy in Princess Crossing, one of the three franchises that the Tolmays own.

The alliance, according to Maseribane, could be advantageous to both parties.

“I hope that after this trip we would be allies. That will enable us [Lesotho] to promote tourism in the country, to organise more sporting events – such as the 4×4 event – between the two countries and to promote social responsibility.”

A second ladies’ 4×4 event in Lesotho already is being organised for August this year.
