Woes Rand — April presents to us so many long weekends and off days. How can we enjoy them to the utmost? Clearly, by listening to some good live music, laughing at an up-and-coming comedian or even enjoying a beer festival. All the details are here, every week. Friday 25 April

Be sure not to miss the fifth annual Mogale City Beer Festival this year. The festival is scheduled from Friday 25 April to Monday 28 April and will be held at the Kalashnikovv Gallery in Krugersdorp. The beer festival will be accompanied by local entertainment. Expect dancers, DJs and rappers. The festival starts at 3pm on Friday and entrance costs only R50 per person. Saturday 26 April

Durban music is brought to Roodepoort on Saturday as three Durban-based bands – Gangs of Ballet, Mickey Burns and Young – are set to perform at Rumours Lounge in Weltevreden Park. Doors open at 6pm. Saturday 26 April

If loud music doesn’t rock your boat, settle in for a swinging night at Chicago’s Piano Bar in Rand Park Ridge. Chicago’s is widely described as the place where flappers and gangsters unite for an evening of swing and remixes, and holds to that standard with Gatsby Glamour this Saturday. Expect great music, great atmosphere and a terrific night out. Casual Culture will be providing the music on the night. Entrance is free and the event is from 7pm. Sunday 27 April

Do you need some laughs this week? If you don’t mind driving out, don’t miss The Box at POPArt, Main Street Life at 286 Fox Street, Johannesburg. It’s a weekly comedy night that is organised in collaboration with Goliath and Goliath from 6.45pm on Sundays. Entrance costs a mere R50 per person and tickets are available at the door.
